Team cardiovasculaire genetica
"We research cardiovascular diseases with a genetic cause that can lead to sudden cardiac death without early diagnosis or treatment. Every year in Belgium, 10 000 to 17 000 people die as a result of sudden cardiac death." Professor Bart Loeys, head of department, is keen to give us some insight into his field of work.

Heart Hike

Every hour, one Belgian dies as a result of sudden cardiac death.

"On April 1st 2025, my wife, Frederike, and I are leaving for a four-month hike. We start next to the North-Sea and will follow the GR5 long-distance path to the Mediterranean, meaning 2150km, 3 million steps, and 100 days of walking, all with 1 mission: Support for sudden cardiac death research!"
